St. Aidan's CBS Whitehall........ 1-11
Coláiste Eoin........................... 1-10
This was a hugely entertaining encounter between two well matched teams, and to be fair, the St.
Aidan's team was hard pressed and a little fortunate to achieve victory in a tight finish. With
barely three minutes left on the clock, Aidan's were trailing by 3 points. Then Luke Sweetman
made a surging run through the defence and smacked a sweet goal past the goalkeeper
into the back of the Coláiste Eoin net. Aidan's attacked again and Ted Furman danced his way
through for a glorious point on the stroke of full-time, leaving Aidan's victorious and their
opponents dumbfounded.
Aidan's wasted chances in the first half, yet deserved to be 2 points ahead at the break. An acrobatic penalty save to his right by Aidan's keeper Adam Lawless was the highlight of the first half. Coláiste Eoin deserved supremacy in the second half with flowing passing movements and direct football in to their forwards, leaving them 3 points ahead with moments remaining. Then Luke and Ted struck for glory to the delight of their Delirious Supporters. This was a team effort with many outstanding performances, in particular, P. Mac Reamoinn and S. Moyles with two glorious points, and also A. Cronin and Gary Reid. Despite the shock, the Coláiste Eoin team and mentors were magnanimous in defeat and a credit to their school. St. Aidan's, under the guidance of Alan O'Neill and Noel Duffy, can now look forward to a Leinster campaign again this year.
