St. Aidan's finished off a glorius track and field season with further success at the All-Ireland Schools Championships in Tullamore this weekend. Running in the Intermediate 800 metres, Mark MacDonald clinched the gold in a time of 1.58.7. This was followed by an equally superb 1 st place by Eoin McDonnell in the Intermediate 1500m, finishing in a time of 4.12.29. Both athletes have already achieved qualifying times for the Junior Olympics.
Rounding off a great day for the school, the 4 x 100m relay team claimed 3 rd place while Larry Brady claimed a creditable 6 th position in the 1500m Steeplechase final.
What a great season this has been for the athletics team in St. Aidan's and in particular the coach Mr. Alan O'Neill. This is his 5 th All-Ireland title on land and water this year.
Congratulations to all involved. The months of hard work have really paid off!
