Athletics Review

After the thrills and spills of the crosscountry season the athletes turned their attention to the track. The first major event was the All-Ireland C.B.S. and our younger runners were very successful. Conor Turner, Aaron Dequina, Andrew O' Flaherty, Conor King and Conor Weir collected medals in their chosen events. Then our attention was turned to the track and the North Leinster championships with Colm Murray, Mark McDonald and Larry Brady turning on the style.

Those that qualified for the Leinster finals had a tough task, however the hard training over the winter paid off. Graham Mahon produced a fine run to finish 3rd in the intermediate 800m and claim a place in the All-Ireland finals. Mark McDonald finished 3rd in the Senior 800m and the current all Ireland champion will be heading to Tullamore with aim of retaining his title. Larry Brady produced a fine run to guarantee his passage to the all-Ireland finals. Good luck to all the

athletes in Tullamore and good luck to all athletes that will be taking part in club competitions over the summer. Thanks to all the students that helped out and competed for the school during the year. It was one of the most memorable years in history of St. Aidan's athletics and we all have a feeling that next year will be as good, if not better.
