![]() Bertie Ahern, T.D., visit to St.Aidan'sAn Taoiseach pops into his old school Friday the 25th of April was a memorable day for St. Aidan's C.B.S. as the outgoing Taoiseach and past pupil of St. Aidan's, Mr. Bertie Ahern visited the school. From the moment he entered the gate he looked relaxed and happy. Mr. Lynch did a great job organising a guard of honour and the students acted impeccably as always. After Mr. Reynolds had welcomed the Taoiseach he proceeded to talk about his affection for the school and the great work that continues to prevail. He presented the Senior athletes with their All-Ireland medals, and this was particularly sweet for the team as Mr. Ahern had presented the boys with their medals back in 2004 when they captured their first National title. After the presentation he was presented with a number of pictures including a picture of the man himself decked out in his cross-country gear with the great coach Bro. Clarke. It was evident from his facial expression that he was deeply moved by this gift and he went on to talk about the day Bro. Clarke bought him a special pair of running spikes to support his fallen arches. Mr. Ahern then proceeded to the new extension, and he engaged in an official opening ceremony. This was followed by refreshments and he made himself available for photos and he also had a chance to mingle with his old teachers. All the staff and pupils in St. Aidan's would like to wish Bertie all the best in the future and we would like to thank him for his great support over the years. |
