Transition Year News

It’s been a hectic and rewarding year for the three Transition Year groups. The year kicked off with the annual trip to Recess in Galway and everyone had a ball. On our return we engaged in a walking tour of Dublin and a bus tour of our city. The busy schedule was intensified when we had to organise our mini-company project and this has met with great success.

Self defence classes and cookery classes have been thrown in for good measure this year. I suppose this would be handy if any disputes erupted in the kitchen! We managed to squeeze in an incredibly rewarding trip to one of Europe’s best historical sites, Newgrange. The local Gardai came in to the school to brief us on the rules of the road. We finished the year with a high by heading to the Laughter lounge in Dublin City.

All the groups are looking forward to the new year when we will be engaging in Irish

dancing classes, a computer course in D.C.U., and of course, the ever popular trip to Barcelona. It may seem like a ‘rest’ year but it is far from that. We have also been working on all our

subjects, producing assignments and projects on a regular year. It’s been brilliant so far and I think I speak for the whole class.

D.C.U. Awards

Well done to all the St. Aidan’s students that collected D.C.U. Kenna carves up the competition

Winning a Leinster title is a great achievement for any school, but to win 3 in a row is truly special.Well that is what the young gladiators of the pool from St. Aidan’s achieved on December 10th in the Leinster finals in St. Joseph’s School, Cabra. These incredible athletes went into the competition with high hopes as they have not been beaten in the previous 2 years. Herculean performances from Sean Kenna, Aidan O’ Boyle, Lorcan Murphy, John Kelly and Conor Bridgeman ensured that the boys would cruise through the group stages.

This set a mouth-watering final with Blackrock College. Coach Alan O’ Neill had recruited some new warriors the previous month and their presence was welcomed. The young guns included Fiachra O’ Nuallain, Niall Molloy, Conor Bridgeman, Lorcan Murphy, Aidan O’ Boyle, Sean Kenna, Rory Monaghan, John Kelly, Conor Turner, Sam Houlihan and Senan O’ Sullivan. After a frenetic start to the final the boys settled into the game and took control, winning the game 7.2.Well done to all involved and roll on the New Year.
