Le Théâtre Français

3rd and 4th year students thoroughly enjoyed theatrical presentations à la française this past term. All students and teachers really enjoyed the French theatre which was a huge success.

Second Year Retreats

The Retreat in Iona Road was an excellent experience. At first when I received the letter I was a little bit sceptical at the idea.We arrived by bus travelling at a stately pace that morning to a complex with big black iron gates at its entrance inspiring an eerie silence. We entered the main building’s little chapel. There was a murmuring amongst people on what was going to happen.

Firstly, all the facilitators introduced themselves; every one of them was very nice and helpful. We then were split up into different groups. We moved into a smaller building to discuss what we wanted to get out of the retreat and what we needed to do to get it. Despite the warm and cramped conditions this proved to be very enjoyable.

Strictly Superb!

The Transition Years have been enjoying the year so far. They have been working on numerous projects and they have been on numerous trips, including an action packed week in Connemara. However, the year has been dominated by ‘SricTlY Ballroom’.The hot-footed students of St.Aidan’s have been strutting their stuff with the girls from Dominican College, Griffith Ave.

The performance took place in the Helix Theatre, in Dublin City University on Monday, December 10th.The dancers took to the stage like they owned the hall, putting on a show that was simply stunning. The judges on the night were well known faces from the world of Irish ballroom dancing, keeping an eye on fashion was ‘Off The Rails’ presenter, Caroline Morahan, and presenting the show was RTÉ’s Claire Butler.

The winners in the Beginners Latin category were Jordan Logue, Fintan Murphy and David McGuinness. The winners in the Advanced Latin section were Adrian Dimla and Declan Patton. The Audience Award was presented to David McGuinness and Adrian Dimla and Caroline Morahan presented Jordan Logue and Aidan McDonnell with the style award. Finally the Waltz award was presented to the smooth operators David McGuinness and Stephen Power.

Well done to all that took part. It was a wonderful exercise in teamwork, dedication and commitment. Many new friends were made along the way and the dancers put on a magnificent show.

Strictly Ballroom

Ready to rock!

After a lunch break in the much needed fresh air we returned and were split into different groups: a music group, drama groups, and a prayers of the faithful group. The purpose of this was that we were going to have a small liturgical service. It was the most enjoyable service I’ve been to. It was quite funny but not at all disrespectful to God.

So at the end of the day we said our thanks to all the people in the retreat. Off we went back to school. On the bus, I asked myself "what did I get out of today?". My response was "I have become more spiritually aware".That is more that I could’ve asked for - overall an enjoyable day.
