PUSHY PUBLISHER

Is there such a word as quadlocating? If there is, the guidance dept. was doing it today. FAS, TCD & Colaiste Dhulaigh, plus a very lucrative photographic commission all beckoned. On top of all that the very pushy publisher of this Newsletter was demanding an article.

Leaving Cert students were TCD & FAS bound. Ms McGrath and Mr Groarke spent a very interesting and informative afternoon in the FAS Training Centre in Finglas. Our good friends there (including, David and Robert Florence's dad) always put on special show for the Aidan's boys, interested in everything from carpentry to CAD.

TCD was next with lots of our students scurrying around admiring the scenery and lapping up the atmosphere. Sorry we missed Shane O'Neill who has just got an entrance Scholarship to the College. Shane scored 600 points in this years Leaving Cert and is well on his way to becoming Dr. Shane -congrats.

Then it was off to meet the Minister for Education, Ms Hanafin and her newly appointed Junior Minister, Sean Haughey. They were present at the official, launch of the newly constituted Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education. We saw lots of photos of St. Aidan's past pupils adorning the walls of the college. During the opening ceremony, two of our past students were singled out for public mention. One who went via Colaiste Dhulaigh, has just got himself a Masters degree from Edinburgh University, - Scotland's most prestigious. Special reference was also made of one of our ex. - LCA students, who has commenced a Level 6 course (CAO) in IT. His tutor was very impressed by his ability to meet schedules and work independently -

take a bow Mr. Connolly and Mr. O'Neill.

Back to St. Aidan's, to discover a distressed Mr. Carmody in the staff room. The pushy publisher was demanding an article on his fantastic hurling exploits this year, but he had French to prepare for his Leaving Cert, students.

Meanwhile, Ms. Peoples was gloating over yet another piece of basketball silver for the trophy cabinet. The things that go on behind that staff room door - small wonder it is out of bounds.

The day was rounded off in glorious style by our first year athletes. Their shy, and bashful coach (also known as the pushy publisher) had organised a fantastic Christmas fun run. Joe Cooper from Clonliffe Harriers was present with lots of terrific prizes. Mr. McCafferty provided vocal support, Mr. McDermott and Mr Humphries took the scores, while the guidance dept. took the picies.

PAST PUPIL NEWS

Well done to Glen Barry (LC. '99) who has just returned from Hollywood where he was promoting his new film, "Van Wilder 2". Glen's brother Jason (LC. '92) has just finished shooting "Bog Bodies" with Lennox Lewis and Vinny Jones.

Best of luck to Luke Sweetman and Colin Moore (LC. '06) as they have entered the Elite Athletes Academy in D.C.U.

Christmas Fundraising

FUNDRAISING IN OMNI SHOPPING CENTRE

We set off for Omni on a windy December morning from school to take part in the fundraising idea our class wanted to do for the "Peter McVerry Trust". It was not long before we had our trendy fundraising T-shirts on over our school uniform and began to collect money. Some of us discovered that fundraising was not the easiest job, while others were impressed at the skills we had in getting money from the public. We thought it had started well, as we had organised ourselves at different points of the shopping centre. It was not long before security informed us of their policy! Basically, we were restricted to collecting from the one point which was beside the Christmas tree. We were amazed at the generosity that everyone showed us. Although we were tired at the end of the day, it had been very worthwhile.

The "Peter McVerry Trust" is an organisation for young boys who are homeless. After covering related issues of justice in our Religion class and we wanted to help this charity on the run up to Christmas. We understand that homelessness in Ireland will not be solved overnight but we also understand that we can all do our bit to make a difference to those who will find Christmas time a struggle.
