Business Awards

Three of our Leaving Certificate students (Paul Caffrey, Philip McFadden and lan McGlynn) were recently presented with € 100 each for their achievements in fifth year business exams.

The awards were presented by the Business School of the Dublin Institute of Technology at an awards evening hosted at the college.

Congratulations to the three winners and we look forward to running the same scheme with this years fifth years.

Portfolio Preparation

Budding Spielberg's or Scorcese's are being catered for in StAidan's. A media portfolio preparation session was presented last week by past pupil Michael McCreedy. Michael will return again after Christmas to check out the progress on photos, videos, reviews and all the other items students have to prepare for entry to the Colaiste Dhulaigh Communication course.

Meanwhile, on the art front, Mrs. McQuaid holds art portfolio preparation classes every Wednesday during lunch hour - raising the standards every year and carrying on a long tradition of assisting students from StAidan's get into prestigious art courses.

Library

Ms. Lewis reminds all students to return books before the Xmas holidays. She would also like all unpaid fines (20 cents!?!) to be settled and she wishes happy reading to all students this Xmas.

Lecture Series 2004

Recently, some class mates and I attended history lectures in U.C.D.These lectures were put on by the Historical Association of Ireland. The entrance fee was €25 and is for a good cause; to enable the Historical Association to publish new history books. There were seven lectures, running from the 18th October to the 6th December, which took place on Monday night each week. This experience was very worthwhile as we got some great information which will be invaluable to us in our upcoming exams. The lectures themselves covered different periods in both the Irish and European history course. Overall, this experience was enjoyable as the lecturers were very interesting and it gave us an insight into third level education. Thanks to Ms. Brennan for organising this for us.

Transition Year Trip

The transition year classes completed a very successful trip to the wilds of Connemara. They participated in canoeing, abseiling, hill-walking, etc. and although the weather was poor, they managed to have a very enjoyable time.

This trip is a very important part of the Transition Year programme. It gives the students a chance to build and strengthen class spirit and friendships. It will be the one event in Transition Year which will stand out for them in years to come. Well done to Br. Duffy for organising this very successful trip and to his two very able helpers Mr. McCafferty and Mr. Mythen.
