St. Aidan's Show We Care

Wednesday November 5th was a beautiful day but it was particularly beautiful for the street kids of Kimberely, South Africa. The afternoon of that day was the occasion of the 3rd annual sponsored walk and silence by the Junior School of St. Aidan's. We are delighted to report that €5508 has since been lodged in the Street Kids Account in the Bank of Ireland, Whitehall. This was indeed a marvellous effort by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year pupils who so generously responded to the needs of the Street Kids. It is really impossible to describe the joy and comfort that this contribution will make towards enhancing the lives and prospects of abandoned, destitute kids, most of whom are just the same age as the boys who contributed.

The Christian Brothers in South Africa and indeed the Street Kids they lovingly care for, are ever so grateful to the boys and teachers of St. Aidan's. We thank, in particular Jim Reynolds for facilitating us in every way, Mr. Ronan Cotter and the many teachers and former teachers who so kindly gave of their time. We thank also the parents and friends of St. Aidan's, who sponsored our young carers in achieving the grand total. We have no doubt that the good Lord will reward all concerned.

Transition Year Mini-Company

This year our mini-company has produced a selection of Christmas cards for charity. The cards were designed by four students: Robert Chapman, Stephen Lawlor, Seán McCormack and James Spicer. The charities who will receive donations are: Heart Children Ireland, Friends of Calcutta, South African Street Kids and the Dublin Simon Community. The cards are priced at €5 for a pack of eight.

We appreciate all the support and direction given by Mr. Slattery and thank you to all who have supported us by buying the cards.

St. Aidan's Credit Union 2003

The Transition Year Class have set up a school Credit Union linked with Larkhill Credit Union. The Credit Union office, which is located at the end of the Corridor opposite Ms. McGrath's room, will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:50 - 1:50.

All students are welcome to join regardless of how much you want to save. Membership is free and the first €5 of every account opened will be given free. There will be draws held throughout the year with the chance to win prizes such as Gamesworld vouchers, a games console and other great prizes. It is a wonderful opportunity for all students to save some money with Christmas so close and we encourage all students to open an account.

For any further information or if you would like to join, come to the credit union office on Tuesday or Thursday and talk to one of the students on the Board of Directors.
