AUSTRIA 2K933 students and 5 teachers left Ireland on February 13th to go skiing in Austria. We all took our seats in the plane and you can imagine the fun we were having and the noise we were making. So after a 2 hour plane journey we got our bags and then got on a bus for a 4 hour bus drive. We got to the hotel and had our dinner and then we had a huge snow ball fight and we did get the teachers down into the snow, no matter what they said. We learnt how to stop on the first day. This is called a ‘snowplough’. But some of us didn’t get the hang of it until the middle of the week such as Mr. Deneher. We started on the easy slopes, but Carmo thought he was too good for that. The beginners got onto the harder slopes on the second day. We changed slopes on the third day and it had tougher and longer slopes. We learned how to parallel turn and this was a great help to a lot of us. On one of the slopes there was a cabin on one of the off piste jumps and Mr. Deneher wanted to call in for a chat so he went straight into it.The amount of people that spent a lot of time falling into the snow was uncountable. We dubbed this the ‘Lowry Flop’. The funny thing about having Mr. O'Neill and Mr. Deneher in the same group was that whenever one fell the other thought he could help out and there was only one thing going to happen- both would end up in the snow! We learned a lot on that trip like how to ski down a slope and how not to turn on a slope. We also learned great team-work skills. The teachers had something planned for each night, like one night we went to an ice hockey match and another night we went to a disco. On a certain night we played a game of bingo and that was great fun. I enjoyed taking Mr. Deneher’s money. On behalf of all the students that went on that trip I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all the teachers involved. It was great craic and an experience I will never forget.
