Gaisce and Edmund Rice Awards

Best of luck goes to sixteen students from Transition Year who are at the moment completing their activities for their Edmund Rice and Gaisce Awards.

Examples of some of the activities the students have done to achieve their award are involvement in green school committee, running chess club, coaching athletics team, setting up and running school credit union. The awards will be presented to the students over the next few weeks.

In September, senior students will have the opportunity to enter for next year's awards.

'Bottle-Tops' Collection

St. Aidan's C.B.S. is engaged in a cross-border appeal to collect plastic bottle tops. A company that supplies electric wheelchairs are donating a wheelchair to a child if its weight could be matched in plastic bottle tops.

To date our students have collected enough to donate three wheelchairs. Mr. A. O'Neill is co-ordinating this excellent project which managed to bring together the efforts of schools North and South in helping out with this deserving cause.

Tesco Tokens

Our campaign to collect Tesco Tokens for school IT equipment is in full swing and Mr. Hastings is delighted with the response to date. Class 2 South has collected most to date -however, there is still time to win the prize for most tokens collected so get cracking!

One to Watch

Peter Sweeney (Transition Year) is currently being coached for the 2008 Olympics. Last December Peter competed as part of the Irish Taekwondo squad in Germany and won an individual gold medal. He is a 1st Dan Black Belt for the last four years and will be going for his second Dan when he turns sixteen.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Cuireadh tús le Seachtain na Gaeilge i Scoil Aodháin Dé Luain, an 7ú Marta. Cuireadh suas postaeir timpeall na scoile agus sa halla do na daltaí sa chéad bhliain. Bhí imeachtaí ranga ar siúl ag gach múinteoir Gaeilge istigh sa rang. Bhí duaiseanna ar fáil ó gach múinteoir Gaeilge don dalta sóisearach agus sinsireach a rinne an iarracht is fearr Gaeilge a labhairt. Chomh maith leis sin bhí ceol tradisiúnta agus popcheol Éireannach le chloisteáil ag am lóin sa halla gach lá, á seinm ag dream ceoil ón scoil.

Exam Students

6 weeks to go and a strong finish required. All the hard work will pay off by you remaining calm and focused. Plan carefully, listen to all the helpful advice from your teachers and look after yourself by getting enough exercise and sleep.

I'm sure that you have all the rosaries and masses being offered up for your success, say a few words of prayer on your own behalf and best of luck to you all.

Mr. T Ward
