Transition-Year student Karl Elliott, received ten "A"s, all on Honour papers, in this year's Junior Certificate. He has put his good results down to "lots of hard work, studying and some very kind Junior Cert examiners".
However, Karl will tell you that the majority of his studying and revision was done in his first and second years. During this time Karl searched for better and more efficient studying techniques such as "Mind Maps," which he found to be more effective and less tedious compared with standard linear note-taking. He also tried to get himself into a studying routine when it came close to exam time.
Perhaps most importantly though, was that Karl tried to keep a balance between studying, exercise and relaxation thoughout his first 3 years in St. Aidans. He trained twice a week and played at the weekend with Tolka Rovers and Belvedere football clubs. He also played tennis throughout the summer. This balance between work and play is crucial to anybody preparing for exams. Sport is a great way to release any tension or stress.
